Comments from the CEO Stefan Sjöstrand: March 2020 was the month that shook not only the world, but SkiStar too, as the spread of the new coronavirus left no-one unaffected. Announcements that our operations in both Norway and Austria had been forced to close were followed by Sweden’s Public Health Agency advising us to also close the Swedish resorts.
When it comes to snow, it’s hard to beat Norway and Sweden. SkiStar’s five Scandinavian ski resorts have seen great conditions so far this season, with Åre, Sälen and Vemdalen in Sweden and Trysil and Hemsedal in Norway currently enjoying snow depths of between 62 cm and 168 cm.
Easter is the ideal time to get away for a family ski holiday; in fact, it’s something of a tradition in Sweden and Norway. With longer, warmer days, glorious pink sunrises and sunsets and a more chilled-out vibe on the slopes, the Easter holidays are the perfect time to relax and spend time together in nature.
Starting today (February 20), SAS is launching tickets to Sweden and Norway’s largest ski resorts, Sälen and Trysil, for Winter 2020/2021. Ski instructor and mother-of-two Marie Stenmalm, manager of SkiStar's ski school in Sälen, has taught thousands of adults and children to take those first turns.
After nine winter seasons, SkiStar’s popular loyalty club, MySkiStar, has seen membership surpass 900,000. Grand opening of Europe's first ski airport with a 10 minute transfer to the slopes. Scandinavian Mountains Airport welcomed its first flight today (December 22nd), with direct SAS flights from London Heathrow starting next Saturday December 28th. With transfers to Sälen, Sweden from just 10 minutes, British skiers can fly in the morning and be out on the slopes after lunch.
Comments from the acting CEO Anders Örnulf Winter came early with both cold and snow at all destinations, enabling good snowmaking conditions and an early start to the season and ensuring that our resorts are in fantastic condition for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The Board of Directors of SkiStar has appointed Stefan Sjöstrand as President and CEO as from 11 June 2020 at the latest.
We have yet another excellent financial year to look back on. Compared with the previous year, it is worth noting that last year’s weather conditions were fantastic, enabling us to increase the number of skier days by a massive 7.5 percent. Considering this, we are very pleased with this year’s results too!
