Preparations for the 2024/25 winter season are well underway at SkiStar’s destinations in Sweden and Norway. SkiStar saw a significant increase in British skiers across SkiStar’s resorts last winter, and the guests enjoyed reliable skiing conditions throughout the season. With the British skiers in mind, SkiStar introduce several exciting updates this coming season.

Comments from the CEO Stefan Sjöstrand: “The early start of the winter season has led to a high demand from our guests, and the bookings are 9 percent higher than previous year, meaning that more than 80 percent of the season’s estimated accommodation sales are already booked.”

The five largest ski resorts in Scandinavia, operated by SkiStar, kickstart the ski season ahead of schedule

The cold weather over the past month has created optimal conditions for snow production and snowfall has made the Scandinavian terrain magical. SkiStar's ski resorts Vemdalen and Sälen opened for the season in early November. Next up to open are Åre, Trysil and Hemsedal. SkiStar, the market leader in Scandinavia alpine tourism, expect a long Scandinavian ski season that extends to 1 May.

Preparations for the 2023/24 winter season are well underway at SkiStar’s destinations in Sweden and Norway. Several important steps have been taken to modernise and improve the ski experience for all ski enthusiasts, including new 6-seater lifts in Sälen and Hemsedal. All destinations will also receive improved snow production to ensure a long and snow-proof winter season.

Climate change will have a direct and significant impact on SkiStar operations in the future, as white, cold winters are a prerequisite for winter operations. To ensure that efforts to reduce climate impacts are sufficient, climate targets have been developed to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement, in line with the SBTi methodology, which has now approved the targets.

Preparations are now underway to get Vemdalen and Åre ready for the summer season, which opens in June with new mountain experiences. Both destinations have a long history of year-round tourism, and this year SkiStar’s offer will be expanded as Vemdalen gets its first climbing park and trail biking with machine-dug cycle trails down Vemdalsskalet.

Now, as we summarise two-thirds of the winter season and SkiStar’s second important quarter for the 2022/23 financial year, we see continued growth in the core business operation with a record turnover of SEK 2.5 billion (+8%) after the first six months of the year, despite the economic situation and challenging times. We can also report a very good second quarter.

Interest in spending the Christmas holidays in the Scandinavian mountains at SkiStar’s destinations has been exceptionally high again this winter. The cold spell in December meant SkiStar was able to produce plenty of excellent snow, promising a long and snow-filled winter season. Several destinations, especially Trysil, Hemsedal and Sälen, have also received a fresh batch of natural snow lately.

The winter season will soon be here again and there are lots of new developments at all of SkiStar’s destinations for young and old alike. Besides improving snow production, we’re also continuing to work on everything from hire and sale of used ski clothing and skis to providing more activities like snow parks and ski cross courses and increasing digitisation for a more carefree experience.
